Top 10 Beauty Tips to help you get ready for Summer!

Summer Tips #1

Summer Essentials, Spf 30 or more

Get Ready for Summer with and SPF30 or above!
Protect your Skin year round with an SPF 30 or higher!

This one is a NO brainer but it is SO important that I have to include it as #1 on Summer Tips list.  Although sunscreen should be a staple in your routine year round, it is vitally important during the summer when the Sun’s dangerous UV rays are the highest. (May – August).  The general rule of thumb from dermatologists is that you should protect your skin year round by using a sunscreen that offers the following:

  • Broad Spectrum Protection (protects against UVA & UVB Rays)
  • Spf 30 or higher
  • Water Resistent

Sunscreen should be applied to every exposed area of your body, head to toe including your face, neck & the top of your feet!

Here are a few of my favorite Summer Spf Essentials for the Face and Body.

Spf for the Face:

Elta MD UV Clear Spf46

La Roche-Posay Anthelios Mineral Ultra-Light Fluid Broad Spectrum SPF 50

COOLA Organic Mineral Face Matte Tint Sunscreen, SPF 30, Reef Safe

Spf for the Body:

La Roche-Posay Anthelios 60 Melt in Sunscreen Milk for Face & Body

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunscreen for Body, SPF 55

Thinksport SPF 50+ Mineral Sunscreen (Reef Safe)

Summer Tips #2

Take a Salt Bath Twice a Week

Take a Salt Bath Twice a Week for Healthy, Glowing Skin!

Soak twice weekly in an Epsom Salt or Dead Sea Mineral Salt Bath for healthy, glowing, moisturized Skin.  There are so many benefits to a Salt Bath.  Salt’s mineral content helps restore the protective barrier in the skin and helps it hold hydration.  Have you every noticed that your skin doesn’t wrinkle or prune after a long soak in salted water?  Enough said!

Tree Hut Fig & Olive Mediterranean Salt Soak

Ahava Dead Sea Mineral Bath Salt (32 oz)

Dr Teal’s Restore & Replenish Pink Himalayan Mineral Soak – 3lbs

Summer Tips #3

Vitamin C Inside & Outside!

summer tip #5
Vitamin C Inside & Out Every Day!

Take a Vitamin C Supplement Daily & Apply topical Vitamin C in the form of a serum daily.  Vitamin C is necessary for the growth, development and repair of all body tissues. It’s involved in many body functions, including the formation of collagen, absorption of iron, the immune system, wound healing, and the maintenance of cartilage, bones, and teeth.

The human body doesn’t have the capacity to generate Vitamin C. Therefore, it needs to be received through food and other supplements.  You can get it naturally through the foods that contain it such as oranges, red peppers, strawberries, grapefruit, broccoli and kale.  And you can get it in the form of a vitamin supplement. Vitamin C is water-soluble, which means that if you take more than your body can use, the excess is usually excreted without causing harm.  That being said, the recommended daily intake for Vitamin C is 65-90 mg. per day with an upper limit of 2000 mg.  I take a 1000 mg Vitamin C supplement daily.  Of course, you should consult with your doctor before adding any vitamin supplement to your routine.

Benefits of Vitamin C when applied topically to the Skin include promoting collagen formation, mitigating the effects of free radicals and helping to maintain the firmness of the Skin.  Sounds good to me and most Dermatologists agree that you should add a topical Vitamin C product to your skincare routine.

Here are a few of my favorite Vitamin C Products:

Vitamins:

NOW Vitamin C-1000 Sustained Release, 250 TabletsEster-C Vitamin C 1000 mg

Vitamin C Serums:

Timeless Skin Care 20% Vitamin C Plus E Ferulic Acid Serum

TruSkin Vitamin C Serum for Face, Topical Facial Serum with Hyaluronic Acid and Vitamin E

Mad Hippie Vitamin C Serum with Konjac Root, Hyaluronic Acid, and Ferulic Acid

Hint: I DON’T use this on my face!

I discovered this on accident and it has solved my dry hands & cuticles problem after years of trying to find the perfect hand cream.  Keep a jar of Pond’s Cold Cream Cleanser by your bathroom sinkAs your LAST step every night before going to bed, wash your hands with Pond’s Cold Cream Cleanser.  Rinse Off & dry.  Result – Wake up with soft, moisturized hands & cuticles.  I swear it lasts all day even through multiple hand washings throughout the day.  And it makes hand creams even more effective.

Summer Tips #7

Layer Body Oil & Body Lotion for Bathing Suit Ready Skin

Top 10 Beauty Tips
Layer Body Oil, Then Body Lotion for healthy, glowing Skin!

This tip is not just for summer.  It is something I do year-round.  In the Summer, it is especially important to have moisturized, healthy, glowing skin as much more of our body is exposed!  I mean, who wants to head to the beach with alligator skin?  This method of layering body oil, followed by body lotion works great year-round.

Here’s what you do, immediately after getting out of the shower or bath (within 1 minute), apply body oil to your entire body, then air dry or pat dry if needed.  Immediately follow with a good body lotion.  Result?  Healthy, Glowing, Soft, Touchable Skin!  I love Kopari’s Coconut Body Oil, followed by Josie Maran’s Argan Oil Body Butter!  Absolute Heavenly Combination!

Favorite Body Oils and Lotions:

Kopari Organic Coconut Melt

Pure Body Naturals Cellulite Massage Oil

Josie Maran Whipped Argan Oil Body Butter

Summer Tips #8

Switch to a Silicone Based Foundation

Summer Beauty Tip #8
Switching to a Silicone Based Foundation in the Summer will help your makeup from melting!

Switch to a Silicone based Foundation in the Summer when the humidity is high.  Silicone acts as a film barrier between your skin and the humidity. This prevents it from seeping into your pores and running down your face.  To find out if your foundation is silicone based, check the ingredients that appear at the top of the list.  If dimethicone, cyclopentasiloxane or anything ending in “cone” or “siloxane” appears at the top then it’s silicone based.

Here are a few of my favorite silicone based foundations to help you beat the heat this Summer!

Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup

L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Liquid Longwear Foundation

Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Full Coverage Foundation SPF 15

Summer Tips #9

Bronzer is your New BFF!

Beauty Tip #9
Add Warmth to the Skin with Bronzer, Perfect for Summer!

Bronzer brightens the skin & gives it warmth, perfect for Summertime!  In the Summer, I like to apply a matte bronzer as my last step over after foundation, blush & finishing powder.  With a big fluffy brush, make a heart-shaped over the face starting at the forehead and working down to the cheeks.  Then sweep it along the jaw line.  This gives nice definition and a natural looking glow!

These go to Bronzers will never let you down!

Summer Tips #10

Protect Hair from Sun, Chlorine & Salt Water

Summer Tip #7
Protect Your Hair from damage from the Sun, pool & salt water!

Hair takes a beating during the Summer!  Especially colored hair.  Sun, chlorine, salt water and air conditioning can all wreak havoc on the hair.  These two tips will protect your hair so you can have fun at the beach, in the pool and outside all summer long.

#1 – Before Swimming in the Pool or Ocean, wet your hair & apply a leave in conditioner.  Hair will absorb the conditioner instead of the chlorine or salt water.

#2 – Spritz your Hair with a UV protectant spray before heading out during the Summer months.  I love Sun Bum’s Revitalizing 3 in 1 Leave-In Conditioner which is BOTH a leave-in conditioner and provides UV protection!
