I have always been foundation challenged. I generally don't like a powder foundation and I have tried many liquid foundations that I simply hated. There are so many choices when it comes to shades and brands, I find it overwhelming! Click To TweetOnce we reach the age of 40, it becomes even more difficult to find the Best Makeup Foundations for Women Over 40.
As we age, it gets even worse as we have to worry about foundation settling into fine lines and wrinkles and actually making us look OLDER rather than younger or even older than the actual age that we are. Goodness gracious, who needs that?? We have to worry about hormones and the constant changes that we see in our skin. One day it’s normal, the next day it’s dry, the next day it’s combination…. you ladies over a certain age know what I mean! You get it!
After much trial and error..
I have discovered three foundations that tick all of the boxes. Below are three of my favorite foundations and my picks for the Best Makeup Foundations For Women Over 40 and the best mineral makeup for over 40!
Bare Minerals Original Foundation SPF 15 – I have been using this mineral makeup foundation for over 20 years. It is one of my all time favorites and literally is good for any age skin. Click To Tweet15 year olds can use it and 75 year olds can use it. It is by far the best mineral makeup for women over 40. The first time I used this mineral makeup foundation it was a Where Have You Been All My Life moment. Click To Tweet
It is a mineral makeup foundation with buildable coverage and a natural-looking, radiant finish. It does not settle into lines and wrinkles and looks very natural. My favorite thing about this foundation is that is literally takes about 30 seconds to apply. The company’s “swirl, tap and buff” method makes it quick and easy. Basically you just shake a small amount into the lid, swirl your brush into it, then tap off the excess and apply. A little goes a long way and you can build it to the coverage you are looking for. Comes in 30 shades. I use the fairly light shade. Bare Minerals Original Foundation also comes in a matte formula if your skin is oily.
TIP: In recent years, Bare Minerals has come out with several other foundations including a pressed powder and liquid foundation. I have tried them all and always revert back to the Original Formula.

Algenist Reveal Serum Foundation SPF 15 – This is a lightweight liquid foundation with buildable coverage. Algenist claims that the Reveal Serum Foundation “combines AlgaCorrecting Complex, Alguronic Acid and Microalgae Oil to instantly color correct, smooth skin, and cover imperfections.” I was pleasantly surprised by this foundation. It goes on very smoothly and dries nicely leaving your skin with a nice healthy glow (not oily). It covers well and is buildable. I did not find that is color correcting. It does cover blemishes and other flaws nicely. I use the Bare Minerals Smoothing Face Foundation Brush when applying this foundation.
It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream with SPF 50 – This is a full coverage multi-tasker that goes on smoothly and doesn't settle into lines or wrinkles. Click To TweetIt Cosmetics describes this CC Cream as “a multi-tasking correcting cream that is true scientific breakthrough. It’s packed with anti-aging ingredients that is clinically shown to improve skin and works on all ages, that doesn’t crease or crack!” I would agree with that description. The absolutely best thing about this CC Cream? It has an SPF 5o which is a HUGE Plus!
