Maybelline Fit Me Loose Finishing Powder Review

I have to say that Maybelline has been quite impressive lately.  The brand’s Fit Me line has been a huge hit among Bloggers and YouTubers and frequently makes an appearance in my Instagram feed.  I personally tried the Fit Me concealer and foundation and sadly, they didn’t really work for me.  I do use and love Maybelline’s Instant Age Rewind Concealer which I find to be a better fit for my skin.  After seeing rave reviews on the Maybelline Fit Me Loose Finishing Powder, I decided to give it a try and see how it would perform on over 40, mature skin and how it would compare to my current favorite, Laura Mercier’s Translucent Loose Setting Powder!

Product Description

According to Maybelline, “Fit Me Loose Finishing Powder is a mineral-based formula designed to help control shine and smooth skin’s texture with a hint of color. This mineral powder provides the perfect finishing touch to your makeup base.”  It comes in eight shades ranging from Fair to Dark and the consistency is described as silky and lightweight with a hint of color.

Packaging & Shade Selection

The packaging of the Fit Me Loose Finishing Powder is sleek.  It comes in a square box with a twist off top.  Underneath is a sifter with a small ledge around it.  The ledge does a good job of preventing the powder from spilling out when you remove the lid.  The powder comes in eight shades with Fair being the lightest and Dark on the other end of the spectrum.  I purchased it in the shade Light which appeared to be a match for my light, neutral to cool skin tone.  However, the powder darkens when applied and I think the Fair/Light shade would have been a better fit.  I would definitely suggest going one shade lighter than normal when selecting your shade in this.

Texture & Application

Fit Me Loose Finishing Powder is a lightweight & finely milled powder that provides a beautiful semi-matte finish.  It applies smoothly and doesn’t settle into fine lines and wrinkles!  The coverage is buildable and this powder does add some color.  I like to apply the powder over my foundation prior to applying blush and highlighter.  I also use it to set my under eye concealer and it works great for that. The powder does a good job of mattifying and controlling oil.  I find that it lasts throughout the day (approximately 5-6 hours).

TIP: The Blush Brush from E.L.F. Cosmetics (pictured) is perfect for applying loose powder, especially to set concealer and foundation under the eyes and around the nose! And it’s only $3.00!

Dupe for Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder?

I really wanted to see how this compared to my current favorite, Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder! Is Maybelline Fit Me Loose Setting Powder a good dupe? Click To Tweet

This powder compares nicely to the Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder.  The main difference for me is that Fit Me Loose Setting Powder is colored whereas Laura Mercier’s is translucent.  I can apply the Laura Mercier powder as the last step over my entire makeup (after blush, highlighter, etc) and it doesn’t effect the finish.  With the Fit Me Powder, it needs to be applied right over your foundation before applying blush and highlighter.  If that doesn’t bother you, then this is a good dupe!  At $7.99 for Maybelline, versus $38.00 for Laura Mercier, it’s a no brainer!

Overall, I love the Fit Me Loose Powder and will repurchase it.  For a drugstore, budget beauty product, this one is really good and it does exactly what Maybelline claims it does.

Have you tried Maybelline Fit Me Loose Powder?  What is your favorite setting powder?  As always, I’d love to hear from you.  Please leave your comments below!

Until next time….

  3. After reading your article I purchased this at Target for a better price than listed here. As I did it I realized I should have used your link but it was actually an impulse buy because I remembered reading this. I am a dedicated Laura Mercier Translucent powder wearer! I have worn it for several years now. My skin is oily and I am over 40 and it is the only powder that does not look weird on my face. Until this stuff! Let me just say it is amazing! I got the perfect color for my skin the first time (fair light) and it is wonderful I have very sensitive skin and get breakouts super easily and it does not bother my skin at all! I have been wearing it every day for a week and I am not sure I will ever go back to Laura Mercier because of the price. You do such good reviews and I wanted you to know it was super helpful when I wasn’t even looking for it! Thanks!

    • I’m so happy to hear it is working for you! And thank you for taking the time to stop by & leave such a nice comment. ? I think the Fit Me Powder is one of the all time best Drugstore finds!??
